Giving an Account

Have you ever felt the stress of knowing that some day you will have to give an account of every idle word you’ve ever spoken? Have you ever experienced the guilt of Satan’s accusations concerning sins you have already confessed and forsaken? Have you ever wondered about the sins you have committed since you became a Christian? Has the impact of 1 John 1:9 become real in your life: “If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness!” Glory to God! What a Savior He is! He is faithful! He is just! He will forgive us our sins! He cleans us up from all of our unrighteousness if we but confess it!

Does this mean I can sin all I want and just confess it? No this promise is written to the saved. The truly saved don’t want to practice a lifestyle of sinning. The spirit of the Christian is willing but his flesh is weak. Because of our weak flesh God provides the assurance of 1 John 1:9 to the saved person.

How can I be saved? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved…. This belief is like a child that trusts his Dad so much that he jumps off of a high wall into his father’s arms knowing that his father will catch him and he will be safe. When I believe on the Lord Jesus Christ I place myself in His care trusting His Word, committing to live by it. If any man be in Christ he is a new creature. Old things are passed away, behold all things are become new.

When I am saved will I be perfect or will I sometimes sin? We are to be perfect in the sense of reaching maturity; but if we were never going to fall short of perfection God would not have provided 1 John 1:9. Pity the person who thinks he never sins. A more repugnant attitude of pride I cannot imagine. Our striving for maturity is not something that keeps us stressed out but keeps us in communication with our Savior throughout the day as the Holy Spirit lets us know we could have done better in an area and we respond to Him as we should. What a help and comfort He is!

Thank You Lord for 1 John 1:9! If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness!

Hey there Mrs. Corbett…..were you in my house today? Thank you for this!!!!! My exact words today…was just that…I am so stressed because I am always procrastinating and I did not do something that I should have done months ago and it caught up with me today. The responding how we should is so hard. I am aware that I need to control my spirit, but it this situation….I caused myself stress…and then did not handle it the way God would want me to. Praise the Lord he is so forgiving.
