A Divine Appointment

Time flies, as they say, but one day in the last year or two I had the awesome opportunity to be used of God in one of those divine appointments you hear about but never dream of experiencing.

We had made the acquaintance of a coworker of a church member, and she had asked my husband to go see her sister who had been ill and unresponsive for some time.  The information we had was that the ill sister had at one time attended a Baptist church and had been baptized.  We knew nothing more.

We made our way into the countryside and found the home of this dying lady.  At the house we found her husband, not expecting us.  He came out onto the porch and chatted until he felt comfortable enough to allow us to see his wife.  Knowing that at times like this in our lives we all need the assistance of those who care, I asked if he and his wife had a church family.  He admitted they did not.  At this my husband and I offered to provide respite for the man when needed.  My husband said a few things to the unresponsive wife and prayed with her.  We turned to exit, but as my husband and the man moved across the room and began the customary small talk of leaving I felt the strong urge to speak to the woman again.  I introduced myself to her, prayed that God would give her understanding once more, and shared the Good News of Jesus Christ.  I told her that I knew she could not pray, but that I would pray for her and if she agreed in her heart God would accept her and make a place for her in Heaven.  I prayed a very heartfelt sinner’s prayer.  A tear escaped her eye and she very clearly said, “Amen.”  A chill went all over me as I realized I had just experienced a very divine appointment.  The lady passed away the next day.  I will rejoice to see her again.

God cares.  He is an awesome Father.
