A Few Suggestions for Maintaining Purity in the Home

It seems to be a part of human nature, that we are careful about the things that have affected our own lives; but tend to think that what has happened to others probably wouldn’t happen in our situation.  We think we know someone so well that we become careless.  Here are a few suggestions we have implemented in our home which might be helpful to you:  1.  We do not allow our children to spend the night away from home unless either their father or I go too.  2.  If we have other children in our home we stay up with them until the last one has gone to sleep.  3.  Modesty is important in front of both boys and girls.  4.  No boys are allowed in girls’ bedrooms, and no girls are allowed in boys’ bedrooms.  5.  Girls’ night clothes must be as modest as day clothes.  6.  When Mom and Dad go to bed, so does everyone else.  I have heard people say you have to trust people.   Balance is needed here.  You do have to trust people within a set of guidelines, and guidelines only help people who want to do right.  But, Jesus said no one is good but God.  A well-known hymn reminds us, “the arm of flesh will fail you, ye dare not trust your own.”  A Christian young man recently shared with our family that he finds it easier to fight the flagrantly immodest attire of the world than the teasingly almost modest clothing of many Christians.  He said it’s easier to look away from what is obvious than from something a little sheer or a little clingy, a little short or a little low.  Following this talk I went through my closet and removed a few items.  I’ve also been more diligent about the girls’ clothes.  I just didn’t know how important it is for many that we be very discreet.  ‘Hoping this is helpful, Lisa Corbett
