Christian Boys–Their Hair and Clothing

This morning a friend emailed asking for scriptures to use in teaching her son about the appearance of a Christian young man. I thought others might be interested as well.

  • In 1 Corinthians 11:14 we find that it is a shame for a man to have long hair.
  • In 1 Thessalonians 5:22 we are told to avoid the very appearance of evil. Who are we identifying with?
  • In Romans 12:2 God instructs us not to be conformed to this world. Who are we copying?
  • In Exodus 28:42 we find that exposure of the loins and thigh are considered to be nakedness by God and that He wants them covered.
  • In Deuteronomy 22:5 we see that a man is not to put on a woman’s garment.

You can probably think of other scriptures as well, but these are some that I shared with my friend. I hope they are a help to others as well.

Blessings to you and yours as you aim at pleasing the LORD.

Excellent selection of scriptures. And you’re so right- who are we copying? It tends to be those we admire, for one reason or another, and we often overlook whether or not their standards of dress and appearance actually reflect God’s character.

We may not realize how much others associate us with a certain group of people by our appearance, but it really does affect their perception of us, and the level of influence that we have with them.
