Have you noticed lately how scruffy many of our young men prefer to look? You’ve seen them.
Their hair looks like it should have been cut just a week or 3 ago. They haven’t shaved in a week. When you mention a shave or a haircut they are evasive. You may be thinking, “What are they thinking?!”
This week I previewed a DVD for the family and I saw a preview for another movie, Penelope. As I watched I noticed something a bit chilling and very revealing. The clean cut young men who dressed as you might expect a young man to dress for church were not heroes. There was nothing in them that would cause a young person to admire or emulate them. Then enter “Mr. Scruff” himself. He is caring and compassionate. He is a hero. Many young men and women will admire and emulate this character.
Even if you home educate your children, take them to family Sunday School classes and ban TV programming in an effort to keep them from becoming peer dependent, the culture may yet dictate their tastes if you bring in the internet or videos and dvds.
As I presently have 7 children, ages 14-24, this is a topic of pertinence to me. Who is impressing our children? Do they share our values?

Very true. The Internet can replace the television and so much more. It’s influence goes far beyond the potential effect of TV. And we thought we had beaten the game…
True, sbcjr, but we never have the game beaten as long as we’re alive. There’s always another trap around the corner. The Lord must have intended to keep us on the alert.
