The last few days I have been remembering various times God has answered our quick intense cries. One such time in particular continues to play over in my mind. We were living in Mississippi at the time, and the children and I were burning trash in a barrel in the back yard. A piece of trash blew out of the barrel and caught the dry grass on fire. Immediately I began to stomp the fire with my feet but it spread quickly. Soon the bank beside the shed was on fire and much of the dry grassy area. The last pastor had a fire which burned the shed down and I was envisioning the nearby woods, homes and entire neighborhood in flames. I began to shout orders: “You go get the hose! You go soak a blanket! You go get your father (in the pastor’s study at the church beside the house)!” Suddenly I realized it was too late! The fire was spreading much too quickly. The area the fire now encompassed was too large for our small efforts–it was out of control! I turned to run up the hill to get my husband and as I turned I cried out loudly, “JESUS HELP US!” Something caused me to turn to look and I saw the entire fire go out immediately! Amazed at what I had just seen, I began to laugh and cry. I ran to the church to tell my husband what had just happened. He came to view the scene, and teacher that he is, he began to give instructions on how to prevent any such reoccurance.
We have had several such experiences and have come to know that our God lives and reigns and is active in the lives of His children. We welcome your true stories of God’s answers to your cries.

I remember that distinctly. God has answered an incredible number of “impossible” prayers for our family.
In January 2007, I came to Maryland to start a teaching position. My husband and children remained in Pennsylvania staying at his parents house until we could afford to rent a home for them to come and join me. January passed and Febuary was ending and I was heading back to Pennsylvania to meet my husband and children to join me in Maryland. I was so excited to see them. I had never been away from my family for such a long period of time and I could not wait to see them. As I drove the weather was great until I was within an hour of my destination. The roads become very bad…and the snow was coming down really hard. I kept praying for the Lord to get me to my husbands parents home. I made it finally to there road. I was now a little over a mile away from the embrace of my husband and children. As I turned left to head down their road I realized that their road had not been plowed and the snow was deeper than I had ever driven in. I told myself that I was so close and I couldn’t just stop now…..and I thought it was too cold to safely sleep in the car…..so I kept driving and praying….I went up a hill down a hill…up a hill down a hill….the third hill I did not make it up. The snow was too deep and my car drifted backwards and slid into a ditch. At this point I was within seeing distance to the house. I thought I could just get out of the car and walk through the snow to their house. I walked about 50 feet in snow that was past my knees….wind blowing and I was freezing. My heart starting pounding and I was physically not able to move. My legs were now frozen because I wear dresses and the snow was very deep….My hands were frozen and I could not move. As I made my way to the nearest house to my left I thought I was going to die…just feet away from seeing my husband and children. I made it too the neighbors door, but I had no strength to knock on the door and I now could not breath and my heart was pounding so hard I thought I was going to have a heart attack. I then begged God to give me the strength to knock just hard enough for the neighbor to hear me. Eventually he came to the door and shortly there after I was in the arms of my husband. Praise the Lord for answered prayers and his protection!!!
Jan, I hadn’t heard that story. Yes, God is good to answer us. Thank you for sharing.
Wow. I hadn’t heard that one either!
