A young friend asked if she could interview me concerning prayer in my life. The result is the following.
Dear Judy,
I’ll enjoy working on it. Let me answer one of the questions now.
How and when I pray–I pray in a variety of ways and places. I like to greet the Lord when I wake up in the morning before I get out of bed. I like to tell Him good morning and thank Him for the beauty around me–often the window blinds are up and I can see outside. If I have concerns I tell Him about them and ask for His help.
When I am eating alone I just bow my head, close my eyes and thank God for the food. I am amazed that God sees to it that I have delicious milk to drink, and other wonderful foods He provides. If I am a little hesitant about the quality of the food I ask God to sanctify it, purify it, or keep it from hurting me. =)
I pray silently throughout the day when things come to my mind–thanks, concerns or needs. Often I just tell the LORD how wonderful He is.
Sometimes I feel burdened to pray for someone or something. When that happens I cannot continue to function until I have lain on a mat in my bedroom floor and communicated with the Lord until the heavy load is gone or lightened.
When I am going to shop for something we need I ask the Lord, often while travelling, to please supply what He wants us to have.
During church I often close my eyes to pray for a singer, musician or speaker–I ask the LORD to help them and the listeners, and that He be glorified and worshiped.
When I am riding with a careless driver I ask the LORD for protection or to have His way with us.
When in great need or emergency I cry out loud to God. In the section on answers to prayer I will give some examples of this.
When I have used all my human reason concerning one of our children and have exhausted my store of wisdom, I cry out to God in private or in the child’s presence. I ask God for wisdom. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God which giveth liberally and upbraideth not–doesn’t fuss at you for it. God has never failed to answer this with something just right for that child or young person.
I like to pray before I read scripture. I ask the LORD to help me to see truths that I need to know.
At the end of my day when I am lying in bed I like to greet the LORD thus beginning my day with Him (“and the evening and the morning were the first day.”) =)
The LORD also communicates with me. When thinking about a situation the LORD will bring a scripture to mind which instructs me.
I’ll work on another question later.
I hope this is what you need.
I love you.
Mrs. Corbett
