What About The Music?

Ezekiel 28:12-19

Eze 28:12 KJV – Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty.

Eze 28:13 KJV – Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone [was] thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.

Eze 28:14 KJV – Thou [art] the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee [so]: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.

Eze 28:15 KJV – Thou [wast] perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.

Eze 28:16 KJV – By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.

Eze 28:17 KJV – Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.

Eze 28:18 KJV – Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee.

Eze 28:19 KJV – All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never [shalt] thou [be] any more.

If we can assume from the previous scripture that Satan is a musical being, and I believe we can, then we ought to pay very close attention to the music we allow ourselves to be a part of.  We certainly don’t want to be taking in info from the enemy.  I submit that we need to pay very close attention to the music itself and not simply the words.   What does the music make you feel like, how does it make you move, how does it make others move, does it tempt you to break down righteous barriers of reserve between you and others you are not married to, does it cause you to be tempted to listen to similar music that you believe to be wrong, does it make you think of being “free” from righteous restraints, does it lead you to question the need for your rules, etc?  Satan is a master deceiver.  We must truly beware in all areas of life, including an area that is a strong point for him–music.

Excellent thoughts. What really hit home with me was the question, “Does it cause you to be tempted to listen to similar music that you believe to be wrong?” Seems logical and obvious, but it’d never struck me quite that way before. I listen to music sometimes that isn’t inherently wrong, but does cause me to consider other similar music. Especially when I’m having to pick and choose already. :)

Thank you.
