This morning around 3:30 am I sleepily made my way to the restroom in the dark. I was unprepared for the alarm that electrified me as I stepped onto the tile and felt–what was it–something smooth and mobile. As I turned on the light it sauntered toward the crack under the vanity. In a medium voice I called,”Steve. Steve.” No answer. The creature disappeared under the vanity and I didn’t bother to awaken my husband but there was to be no more sleep for me. What was that thing?
Last week I spent several days and nights cleaning out and organizing the storage areas at the church. Since I love organizing that was a lot of fun!
On several days I accompanied my husband in visiting.
On Fridays we have instrumental music practice. There are three electric guitars, a violin, one classical guitar, a flute, the piano, the organ and a keyboard–so far.
The men had their monthly men’s meeting on Friday night. Though I’ve obviously never attended one I am told that they have a study or devotion and eat and fellowship. I was in the building at the time working on the organizing project and that pizza smelled good!
We are in the process of setting up a church library. Hannah works in this area. A fun part of this is previewing movies. To make it into the library the book or video must be without any major criticism because you can’t go home with everyone to help them chew the meat and spit out bones. It cannot be a stumbling block for anyone. The media must have value–be worth the time invested in viewing/reading/listening. The library is unashamedly censored. It is of course small now, but we plan to help it grow.
On Saturday we once again gathered to pray with prayer partners about family and church concerns at 9 am. At 10 we partnered up and went out door to door. After we shared some scripture with Craig and Reginald they prayed to receive Christ. I also met Gloria. She honored us by visiting with us on Sunday morning. I enjoyed sharing my Bible with her when I wasn’t seated at the piano. She will be off the island for two weeks but promises to visit again when she returns.
Steve and Rachel visited Stephanie. She was there Sunday. Because of some personal issues she wasn’t there long, but we hope she’ll return. You see, her time is up and she is to leave the island unless she can get some help to stay. It’s complicated.
Some of the men visited with individuals who had some real questions concerning evolution/creation, the Bible and the Sabbath/Lord’s Day. Steve gave more training in how to help these individuals when we met back at the church. On Sunday night he taught more on the creation/evolution topic.
It was nice to have our newly weds, Habte and Katie back in church with us Sunday as Mr. and Mrs. Habte Scale.
Yesterday, Monday the 14th was the day the territories celebrate Queen Elisabeth’s birthday. Although her birthday is actually in the spring, the 14th of June is a national holiday in Grand Cayman. There is a jet ski race around the island here in her honor. Most people are off of work. Brother Benito took us to some property he owns and we picked some naseberry fruit. We did a little exploring and drove some roads we had not previously traveled. Next stop was a pig farm. You can pick out a pig and they will sell it to you or butcher it for you. We saw boars, sows and litters of piglets at various stages. We saw mother sows trying in vain to rest with 8 or 9 piglets nursing, each vying for the best spot, climbing on her, standing on her, laying on her and each other.
As we continued our trip around the island we stopped to see the blow holes. They were producing a great show as the waves rushed in and under the rocks and out through the holes. The water blew high into the sky.
Daniel, Timothy and Rachel have enjoyed snorkeling. They have seen some amazing things! Steve and I hope to try it some time.
You might enjoy knowing this. Here the yield sign says, “Give way.” The no passing zone is marked, “For Heaven’s sake don’t overtake.” You drive on the left and there are quite a few “round abouts” in place of intersections. A white car tag means tourist and a yellow one means resident. If a white tag is driving on the wrong side of the road or pulls out in front of someone they get a little more patience and understanding than if someone with a yellow tag does it. On the whole drivers are courteous, kind and friendly.
Oh! And the thing I stepped on in the dark this morning was about a 3 1/2″ centipede–or millipede–or somekindapede. It didn’t seem to be injured at all and I now know why people keep a flashlight in the night stand beside their bed! I hope I find one by tonight !

I learn new things about this place almost every day, and for sure every time I read one of your posts!
Glad I didn’t step on that thing! Ugh! *shudders*
