What Should We Take To The Island?

Last week as we prepared for Michael and Bekah’s wedding we also were packing the last of our things to bring with us to the island. The question kept repeating, “What should we take with us to the island?” And then scripture answered the question. “For where your treasure is there will your heart be also.” I know that we aren’t to lay up for ourselves treasures on earth but in Heaven so our hearts will be set on Heaven. Yet I believe the Holy Spirit instructed me through the scripture to have the children bring the things that are dear to them because until they do their hearts will not be on the island.

At a later time the scriptures instructed us again, “He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.” We love our family fiercely, yet we must love God more, and if He asks us to leave our family for His sake we must love Him so much that there is no question about it–go we must. If we hang on to our life as it is, or our own plans, we will lose them. If we give up our life and our plans we are given abundant life.

There is no question. Go we must, and take all of our treasures with us. We can’t look back. He that puts his hand to the plow and looks back is not worthy–we would plow a crooked row. We must look straight ahead.

I am always amazed at how the Lord applies scripture to our lives. Often he uses it in ways I hadn’t expected when I read it. :)

I admire your committment to follow the path you are asked to take. God is the rewarder of them that diligently seek him. We made some good memories while you were here.

Mrs. Tilley, I so agree with you. As I read Mrs. Corbetts blog post I was thinking that very thing. I think any christian watching the Corbetts would agree that you can admire their committment to follow the path that God has for thier family. It is awesome for our family to watch them as they obey Christ.
