Why Teach?

There are many reasons to teach but the one I am concentrating on today is a benefit for the teacher.  Today is the last of a 13 lesson series of Bible studies for ladies and I realize that one of the greatest benefits for me has been that I am forced to think about the inconsistencies in my views before I teach them.  I must anticipate the questions and comments that may arise and study past them.  When I study simply for my own benefit I can be a little lazy and not challenge my own views.  When I teach before a group I must know the material thoroughly. 

I believe it would be good if we were always studying to teach someone.  Our own children are a great place to start.  They will challenge your views and you will be forced to as well.  When our views are challenged we must find answers.  We can intimidate those under our authority into outward agreement but when they leave our sphere of influence we will have made no lasting change in their lives.  We must find answers.

    Wow…thank you!!!! This is very true. I can think of many times Matthew already has asked why we do what we do. My husband and I’s desire is that the beliefs and values that we are teaching to our children to become lifelong beliefs and values. Studying and telling our children from the bible why we believe what we believe, and then from your previous blog…be good examples this I think will help them on their way of taking our values and beliefs and making them theirs….because the truth of the matter is….our values and beliefs are coming from the word of God so as their parents we don’t want them to stray away from the principles that God is setting forth in his word. I need to do such a better job at all of this!!!!!!
    I really appreciate your blogs. I really enjoy reading them and being reminded of biblical principles that help me to be a better wife and mother!!!!!!!!
