Heroes

I’m loving this time in my life. Reality has sunk in. Cynical? Nah. Seeing more clearly? Yeah. During my first fifty years my heroes were fictitious characters with real names; created by biographers, themselves or my rose colored eye sight. Today my heroes are real people who live, struggle, fall down, and get back up. My heroes have things in their lives they hope people will extend grace to them about.

The scriptures said these things better than I can. For ALL have sinned and come short…. There is not a just man upon the earth that doeth good and sinneth not. In Matthew, Mark and Luke, Jesus says that there is no one who is good but God. A just man falleth seven times and riseth up again….

If you understand biblical symbolism you realize that seven is the number of completion. The just man, in falling down seven times, has just experienced total failure. Yet he is a just man, so he gets up.

My daughter Hannah says it this way. “It’s kind of a good place to come to. You realize, ‘yep. That’s why we needed God. None of us could have done it–none of us.”

Yet, there is one flawless hero. His name is Jesus. He was total God and total man–the god-man. He is the only one who ever lived a sinless life. He was the only one who could pay our debt to God. You can have your sin debt paid by faith in Jesus’ payment for your sin.

Blessings!
